Creative Innovation (Week Four)

Week Four's class was largely focused on collaboration and community. collaborating made my ideas and brain flow like crazy, though it was frustrating in some ways because I am not the best at articulating my ideas properly so I really struggled with that but I think in that sense it is great practice for all of the times I will need to be able to collaborate with others on various projects and research. However, the true lesson of the class was about creative innovation and how the community can help in the innovation process.

The activity was a group assignment where we were instructed to find ways of improving the creative flow for college students. Each group was to come up with a solution and then present it to the class. My group ended up focusing on the curriculum/class options to be more student-led and a bit more flexible for what students may be interested in taking. My drawing I think was depicting the idea of breaking free from the rigid expectations into something more open and allowing for the freedom to create, which perfectly encompasses the true goal of each person in the class when we were doing this group assignment.

Something that was said in class really sat with me so I am going to write it here, "systematic changes come from community creativity." It is so true, we see it all the time with the internet normal people, influencers, and celebrities are able to make change by supporting each other and lifting others in finding ways to create both positive and negative changes in the world. It is really important to remember this, especially in these times when there are so many who are actively increasing restrictions on people's human rights.

I am sort of in an "anxious rudimentation" period at the moment. I want everything to be exactly right and perfect. I just keep writing things and then rewriting them over and over. So I am worried that if I do not just post this I never will. I am just going to post it as is.

  1. I'm so glad that you were able to self-reflect on the opportunities and challenges of creative collaboration, including getting more practice in articulating your visions and ideas with confidence to others in a process of communal creativity. I'm glad that the core insight you're taking away from this lesson is the power of community for change!
